June 13th, Help! It’s Kitchen Klutzes of America Day
6/12/2010Okay America! It’s time to come clean — when was the last time you messed up a recipe; botched up a cake; created an unrecognizable food disaster of the worst possible kind? You’re still not fessing up?
All right! I see. You’re all in denial — trying to be perfectionistas of sorts. Well, let me make it a bit easier for you. Have you ever burnt a piece of toast or a pie like the picture? For “crying out loud” — who hasn’t burnt something at one time or another? I want to see them — they probably never have cooked.
Well, I certainly have — and then some. It’s part of the learning process. I’m not using the quote, “Expect the Unexpected”, for nothing — especially when it comes to cooking. My family takes it all in stride. They’ve learned that things don’t always turn out — so having a nonchalant attitude about the dinner meal will make up for any disappointments of the culinary kind. When things turn out great — they’re all the better for it.
But over the years, I’ve become a pretty decent cook, if I have to say so myself. I do recommend using cookbooks. They do come in handy, but it is kind of fun to experiment and use replacement ingredients — when out of the original ingredients. Mind you — that can be when things take a turn for the sub par side. So it’s good to have a back up plan when you can.
Honestly, though there’s no good reason for not being able to put together something palatible – now that we have the internet in our arsenal as reference guide source, that is. So take a look at these tidbits, maybe you’ll discover what the issue is. Bon appetite…
