Leaf Peeping in Europe & The America’s — Plus, Fall GiveAway!

10/30/2008

Did you get a  chance to see the PBS show, A Ride Along the Lincoln Highway, which aired last night?  I enjoyed it! But I have to say that it was kind of weird seeing someone that I had met on the internet talking about a subject that I had accidentally showcased during a detour I had made while leaf peeping.

It had a segment with, Brian Butko, of the Lincoln Highway News, who I did my very first unplanned interview with, and he agreed to give one of his books for free during my Leaf Rx Tour (which you can check out at the bottom of this page, if you missed it.)

Brian is a very learned guy on the subject of this interesting highway, that I had driven before numerous times, but always knew it as Route 30.  Now the word is getting out, that it’s equally, if not more, important than Route 66, which I already knew about and liked, being that I had a history with it, as well.

Update: The Fall GiveAway has ended. The winner will be announced on, 11.2.2008 at 12:00 p.m. Thanks for all who commented.

Fall Giveaway & Leaf Peeping Down Under!

10/26/2008

My Leaf Rx Obsession Tour is winding down, right about now, but not really, it’s actually kicking into high gear for my site.  I’m getting ready to do something that is unprecedented with my site.  And what’s that — pray tell — you may wonder?

In honor of all the virtual traveling we’ve done, and my “going out on a limb” to do my first time ever interview with, Brian Butko, of Lincoln Highway News — (who I knew nothing about before he commented on my site.)   After he commented on my site and helped with the making of the upcoming PBS show, A Ride Along The Lincoln Highway — airing on the, 29th of October, at 8:00 p.m. (which he is appearing in) — I decided to “go out on a limb”, again, even further this time — by planning to do something else I’ve never done before…

Just get on with it — are you saying?!   What is it, for crying out loud?!!  Okay, I’ve teased you long enough — I’ll just go ahead and say it: (more…)

We’re headed to the continent of Asia ~ you’re welcome to come along — where we’re going to take a brief leaf peek at some changing hues out in the countryside of a place called Dali, and others.

The centerpiece of this photo, besides the fall leaves, is one of the ancient Three Pogoda structures, that have survived for over a thousand years.

This continent is home to various groups of people, who have been going through numerous changes for centuries.

Leaf Peeping in Africa

10/19/2008

My little avatar and me, have regrouped, and ready to go off again searching the ether for comfort views to sooth my obsessive condition, called leaf peeping. This time we’re searching for Leaf Rx virtually in far off lands.  We were actually having vehicle problems, but now we’re back in operation again — just in time to finish our tour.

In the literal world I’ve only visited two foreign countries, which ones you may be wondering?  I will showcase them later — so we’re hoping you’ll want to join us, too.

Doing things alphabetically makes things easier, so first up we’re stopping in a place that doesn’t come to mind when thinking about autumn and leaves, but you know what I say, “expect the unexpected”, and that is so true of the continent of… (more…)

With who, you might be saying? Well, I’ll reveal who in a bit, but first we have to complete the tour. In honor of Columbus Day I’m doing my finale with a twist. So stick around. The clock is ticking over there from Pike Place Market, which is located in the state we’re heading to. We’re moving on, because we’re running out of time and states! So let me and my little avatar get going, because we’ve got more leaf peeping to do, if you’ve been keeping up, and as an update for you newbies, who just joined us. Moving on to… (more…)

UV Leaf States’ Views & Learning Some History, Too!

10/10/2008

These states starting with the letters “U” and “V” have trees with leaves that are soaking up the ultra violet, and the results are some outstanding earthy tones. Starting in a state that has plenty of sun that being, Utah (43), which I’ve been to.

The rocks in these parts are doing some amazing things, too — which we were able to drive through and see. The color that they exhibit can be just as rich and intense as the leaves, and this is all year long! Two of these places with gorgeous rock formations are called Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park. Some really beautiful rock formations.

A number of these formations, like the one on the right, are located at a place called Arches National Park. (more…)

South Carolina (39) ~ has places called Sandhills, Piedmont, and Blue Ridge Region, which are part of the Appalachian MountainsThe photo on the left is a closer view of South Carolina, in a place called Port Royal. It’s more like the grasses of fall in these parts. So I went out searching for a closer view, and this is what I found — photo on the right, below, are some hints of color going up the hill! We were probably looking down on it from the pictures above. (more…)

No Leaf States With the Letter “Q”

Where are we off to this time? To the likes of Oklahoma (35) ~ I don’t think about mountain ranges, when I think about Oklahoma, but it is home to several mountain ranges, including: Arbuckle Mountains, Oachita Mountains, Wichita Mountains and the Ozark Mountains. Never stopped in Oklahoma, but I have been through, when I went on that Greyhound Bus tour.

The photo on the left, calls to mind the legendary story of The Grapes of Wrath, with the rows and rows of vines changing colors at harvest time. (more…)

More Notorious Leaves in Eight States

10/1/2008

Picking up right where I left off a few days ago, with my Leaf Rx Obsession Tour — it brings me to the last three of the eight states starting with “N”. I can’t believe it’s already October! Weren’t we just at this month a little while ago. I better get on with it, because time is running on. I better catch up!

Several of the states, have two names as opposed to the other states that have one. So what am I quibbling about? Am I saying that these states are not legitimate “N” states? Well, quite frankly, those states couldn’t stand alone as just Carolina, Dakota, Hampshire, Jersey or York! Oh, with the exception of one, and that’s Mexico. But the rest needed support and that’s what they got. Case closed! Let me get on with my leaf peeping! (more…)

N: Is for Notorious Leaves in Eight States & My Visit to New York City

9/28/2008

Let me remind anyone who should happen to stop by, what you actually dropped in on. I’m in the midst of an all out Rx remedy to treat my condition, called leaf peeping. The treatment is working wonders. It involves visiting the 50 states, which is what me and my little avatar are about doing right now. You’re welcome to come along, too!

Nebraska (27) ~ a state that I’ve driven through, but never really stopped to check out. I know about Nebraska from the work they do at a place called Girls & Boys Town that used to be an orphanage for boys, but now helps at-risk-children. It was founded by Father, Edward J. Flanagan. There was a movie, starring, Spencer Tracey as the priest, and Mickey Rooney, as an orphaned boy.
