Savvy Advice From Yoda
5.01.2011
Are you a Star Wars fan? Well, surprisingly, I wasn’t a very big fan, initially, but I did come to appreciate the ideology behind the message of the series. (I saw the last three, but didn’t really like them. Also, I haven’t as yet been able to sit through the first one — due to it being so long. However, I would like to see it on the big screen if they ever decide to release it again.)
As far as the message that was emphasized, I totally got it – that being one of optimism and doing good instead of negativity — hence, the idea of Luke Skywalker going toward the “light” as opposed to the “dark side” — where Darth Vadar had gone.
What I enjoyed the most was the wisdom from one particular character — YODA — the wise one. Especially the quote above, as seen in this excerpt from the film at youtube.com.
You hear people say “I’m trying to do this” and “trying to do that” all the time — me included, once upon a time. But I realized a number of years ago that when you try you’re not doing what you set out to do. So as Yoda said, you only have two choices when it comes to doing something — do it or don’t. There is no in between. As the saying goes “you can’t be a little bit pregnant” — either you are or you’re not.
So I do fall back on my laurels some times when it comes to certain things, like drawing per se, but the only way I or anyone can learn and grow is by doing. I have learned that I can do little small things easier than taking off big chunks at a time. So that’s what I will continue to do as I go on my way.
