Where are we off to this time? To the likes of Oklahoma (35) ~ I don’t think about mountain ranges, when I think about Oklahoma, but it is home to several mountain ranges, including: Arbuckle Mountains, Oachita Mountains, Wichita Mountains and the Ozark Mountains. Never stopped in Oklahoma, but I have been through, when I went on that Greyhound Bus tour.

The photo on the left, calls to mind the legendary story of The Grapes of Wrath, with the rows and rows of vines changing colors at harvest time. (more…)

More Notorious Leaves in Eight States

10.01.2008

Picking up right where I left off a few days ago, with my Leaf Rx Obsession Tour — it brings me to the last three of the eight states starting with “N”. I can’t believe it’s already October! Weren’t we just at this month a little while ago. I better get on with it, because time is running on. I better catch up!

Several of the states, have two names as opposed to the other states that have one. So what am I quibbling about? Am I saying that these states are not legitimate “N” states? Well, quite frankly, those states couldn’t stand alone as just Carolina, Dakota, Hampshire, Jersey or York! Oh, with the exception of one, and that’s Mexico. But the rest needed support and that’s what they got. Case closed! Let me get on with my leaf peeping! (more…)

N: Is for Notorious Leaves in Eight States & My Visit to New York City

9.28.2008

Let me remind anyone who should happen to stop by, what you actually dropped in on. I’m in the midst of an all out Rx remedy to treat my condition, called leaf peeping. The treatment is working wonders. It involves visiting the 50 states, which is what me and my little avatar are about doing right now. You’re welcome to come along, too!

Nebraska (27) ~ a state that I’ve driven through, but never really stopped to check out. I know about Nebraska from the work they do at a place called Girls & Boys Town that used to be an orphanage for boys, but now helps at-risk-children. It was founded by Father, Edward J. Flanagan. There was a movie, starring, Spencer Tracey as the priest, and Mickey Rooney, as an orphaned boy.

Will you look at this!  I totally leaped over the state of Louisiana (18). Here again is an example of the Founding Fathers just not too enthused about using certain letters.  But “L” is being represented, so who’s arguing.  This post is out of order, but that’s all right — it’s the blogosphere.

And look at that swamp will ya’! There may be a number of big lizards floating around in those mirky waters. It looks like the Creature of the Black Lagoon might be hanging out there, but this place has it’s own story of a creepy inhabitant, called the Honey Island Swamp Monster! Oh no!!! That’s what some of the folks around these parts say, and others say not so.   Anyway, it is an example of autumn… shriek… gulp! Let me move on to others… (more…)

M: Is for Magnificent Leaves States & I Got to Visit the White House

Starting with the letter “M”, there happens to be seven all together, and I’m going to put them all in one post to discover what’s so marvelous about the leaf peeping in these states.

Maine (19) ~ Is one of those states on the east coast that is synonymous with leaf peeping. I found out that this state is the largest blueberry producer in the world. Ummmm good…making me hungry… (more…)

J: Is for Jazzy Leaf Break

9.22.2008

Since there are no states starting with the letter “J”, being that it’s officially the first day of autumn, I thought it would be the perfect time to take a cue and throw in a jazzy tune.  Besides you may be wondering why is she discussing minutia, when there is financial crisis going on?  Well, in my mind, this is the perfect diversionary tactic to counter all of that negativity.  It’s the perfect Rx to help anyone calm their jagged nerves.

So to further help out in that regard — I’m offering up a little “jam session” entitled “Autumn Leaves”. How apropos… (more…)

…in the four states that start with the letter “I”.  The first being the state of Idaho (12).

It’s one of those states that I’ve never been to before, but as you can see, there are some striking examples to be seen in this wide open state.

Although, I do know that this state produces something that is used widely by people — called potatoes.

H: Is for Hoopin&Hollerin’ Leaves…

9.16.2008

…in the state of Hawaii (11)!

But wait a minute! Are there actually any Deciduous trees in the whole state or islands? I’m thinking, we’re definitely going to be hard pressed to find any fall activities in the 50th state of the union. But low and behold if you look down at the bottom of this photo below you can see some kind of colorful activity going on. Albeit, it appears to be something going on with the terra firma there.

Looking closer at the photo on the right (You can actually click both photos to get better views.), fall appears to be happening in the sky during autumn.  But I will definitely imbibe this one into my therapeutic photography sessions, because it is exuding the colorful hues of autumn that one in my condition needs. Leaf Peeping North to South

If you’re just joining me and my little avatar,  we’re embarking on a trip to indulge my sensory faculties with visions of leaves from all around the USA.  Things are actually just getting started.  Thus far, we’ve seen some very mellow specimens that are so soothing to my eyes.   My condition is called “leaf peeping“.  You’re welcome to tag along as I get my autumn fix for the year.

Next state on the list is Delaware (8). We hardly hear about this tiny state up in the northeast. It’s a bit like Alaska. It was the only “D” the Founding Fathers could come up with.

I’ve seen a number of photos of great waterfalls, this one is a fine example — Dingman’s Fall. The fall foliage is definitely enhancing the scenery. Just because this is the only example of a state starting with the letter “D” I’m going to take liberties to enjoy another snapshot of the local color… (more…)
