Day 7 ~ 4th Annual ThankFest 2010… “Magazine Day”

11.07.2010 by savvysuzy

‘Searching for My Inner Savvyness’

‘Betty Botter bought some butter,
But,” she said, “this butter’s bitter.
If I bake this bitter butter,
It will make my batter bitter.
But a bit of better butter -
That would make my batter better.”
So she bought a bit of butter,
Better than her bitter butter,
And she baked it in her batter,
And the batter was not bitter.
So ’twas better Betty Botter
Bought a bit of better butter.”

I like magazines, specifically home design magazines — I have a few stacks of them stashed away.  One of my favorites was “Home Companion”, by Mary Engelbreit.  However, she stopped printing due to the downturn in the economy, as did a variety of other magazine companies, if I’m not mistaken.

Inspired Ideas Magazine

However, I’ve just discovered my new favorite magazine, and it’s not even made of paper. Go figure?!!! Yes, it’s the one on the left, by talented, Amy Powers, at InspireCo. I never would have thought that an e-zine would ever win me over paper, but this one absolutely has. It’s just a colorful treat of eye candy.

Lots of great projects in this magazine. Including one by, of all people, Mary Engelbreit, herself. What a surprise! There were a number of other creative women in the magazine, as well.  It’s totally  free for the viewing — because of the paid advertisement.  What a fun gift!  It’s really a wonderful idea that has inspired me to get busy and make something by hand…

Yesterday’s picture

I started the wreath on the right after being inspired by one in the magazine. These are things I already had.  The size is about 8 inches wide.   It’s a little drab, but it’s not finished yet due to my not getting out some of the few other ornaments I have stored away. This all came about by serendipity. That is why I wanted to put something up during the ThankFest, being that it’s about using and appreciating the things we already have at our disposal.

I’m just using a basic HP Photosmart M22 camera.  It’s got more features than some and less than others.  For me, it’s just to start using what I have.  Someone with more expertise would get better results, but I can’t let that stop me from using it.   I have to start somewhere.   This is what the month is all about — appreciating and using things to their fullest potential.  I didn’t add any more objects to the wreath, but it appears fuller in the second photo.  However, there is too much of a shadow effect or exposure issue, I’m guessing.   Just showing flaws and all as I’m learning.
