Reflections on, LOST, Episode XI, “Happily Ever After”, aka…

‘Matters of the Heart’…

Oh…Oh…Oh! The writers went into their kitchen cellar and brought out one of their best bottles of bubbly to serve up this delicious pizza type episode.  That’s how I equated it with the food metaphor (I sometimes confuse them with analogies.) I’ve been using here for each episode this season.  Yes, this was a pizza with all kind of toppings added on.  A meal in and of itself… sustenance for sure!

I was practically giddy after taking in this Desmond centric episode.   He is my favorite character, and for good reason:  his episodes are usually the best, and this one didn’t disappoint in that respect. Lovely! Lovely episode!

It was all over the place, but mostly it was moving “sideways”.  Good to see the likes of Charlie, Daniel, Penny, Lady Hawking, aka Eloise Widmore and George Minkowski (Desmond’s time traveling buddy from the freighter).  Also, it’s interesting to see the interaction that takes place between Des and Charles Widmore.

Looks like Des is going to be doing some time tripping in the future. (Yay!!!), and looks like he is going to be the missing link or “The Constant”, if you will, to help tie these crazed worlds together in some way — because he’s “Special!!!”  That could have good or bad consequences, however.  You never know with this show, which has served as a kind of analogy itself for the way life works.  So you just have to learn to flow with it… same with this show.

What a scrumptious “plot pie” (my son came up with that one) served up by Dalton (Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse.) I put this one as the second best episode (second to the “The Constant”), and third would be “Ab Aeterno”.  They even tied this one to “The Constant” by incorporating the music from that episode in with this one.  You can listen to the music again down below if you wish to later or listen while you read my article.

I just have to say that the Penny and Des storyline works a lot better when they’re apart.  It must be the “absence makes the heart grow fonder” idea that really does ring true here. As opposed to the sometimes heavy and lusty coupling of some of the other characters (Sawyer and Kate, for instance), which can really drag down a storyline and isn’t really about “love” at all.  But the way Darlton has handled the topic of “Love” is just right in this episode.  Maybe they’re speaking about “agape love“.  I’m not sure, because there were some romantic love aspects as well.  With only 7 hours worth of shows left — we’ll definitely soon find out what they were eluding to.

It would be good if writers of other TV shows could take notice.  Some serious segments and lots of deep underlying meaning sprinkled around, here and there.  But mostly I saw this one as… “light and bubbly”… very effervescent… especially toward the end.  Well worth the wait.  HERE!  HERE!!!

I’m Still Counting Down

Until the Next Episode!

(This Was DELICIOUS!

Waiting For The Next Course…

Although Still Savouring This One…)

“LOST” Quote, Season 6, Episode XI, “Happily Ever After“…

ABC TV

“[Desmond walks through the jungle with Zoe and some of her men.]
Zoe: What happened to you?
Desmond: What do you mean?
Zoe: What I mean is, twenty minutes ago you were beating the crap out of Widmore with an IV stand, and now you’re Mr. Cooperative.
Desmond: A lot can happen in twenty minutes.
Zoe: Sure it can. That thing fried your brain.
Desmond: [Smiles.] “Did it?
Zoe: Whatever. It doesn’t change that you’re going to…
[Sayid attacks Zoe's men and then tells her to run, which she does.]
Sayid: Desmond, I don’t have time to explain… but these people are extremely dangerous. We need to go now!
Desmond: [Has a smirk on his face and says...] Aye, okay. Lead the way.
[Desmond wakes up in the stadium to Penny asking if he's okay.]
Desmond: What happened?
Penny: Well I shook your hand and then you fainted. I must have quite an effect on you.
Desmond: [Laughs.] “Aye, you must have.”

While you’re here why not check out out my past reviews or, more so, just commenting much of the time… also you can go to ABC.com to see a recent episode — it’s just my serving suggestion.
