“LOST” Finale…Explosive Ending!!!

5/14/2009

Spoiler Alert!!!

Episode #16, “The Incident, Parts 1 & 2

They didn’t show any fireworks — only that fade to white (they’re leaving the rest to imagination, so I’m serving up some here.) All I have time to say right now is — Wow!!! That was dang good! What an ending!  The best ever of all the finales that the show has put on.  This one had lots of everything.  But mostly — there was plenty of action! They answered questions, but they left a big question mark hanging.

Well I knew someone was going to get it. They’ve been hinting around, and poor Sawyer was being pulled left and right — something had to give. The ending was tragic but funny — with Juliet giving the line of all lines.  Catch ya’ later I mean I don’t remember what she said, but it had impact!

Anyway I’ll write more later — it’s really late and I’m not so coherent right now.

I’m back!  Sorry about that abrupt cut off point there.  I had to get some “zzzz’s”.  We didn’t have our little ” LOST” party until around 12:00 a.m. this morning.  So we didn’t get finished watching the whole thing until around 2:00 a.m.  But you know what?  It was so good that I was awake throughout the whole thing.

I don’t go back and check anything out when I’m writing this up — this is based on my best recollect, which can be quite sketchy at times. This is just me reiterating some of the things I was able to decipher with input from others.   What it all means I can’t really tell you that.  I know one thing — I enjoyed it immensely!  Here’s a bit of my take on what happened…

  1. We finally get to see Jacob (who lives under the four-toed statue) , but then he’s killed off by Ben.  But come on!  This guy was able to touch (literally) bases with all the Losties — most in a good way — all except Sayid (with his wife being hit by a car).   Plus he didn’t visit Juliet, but her and Ilana had back stories.   I’m thinking he’s got some extraordinary capabilities, which means he’s probably not dead or he’ll shape shift into some other form.   There are a lot of unanswered questions about Jacob.   Are most of the other people, including Richard, part of Jacob’s possibly religious cult like following back there in the early days?
  2. We don’t know who the other guy is who talks to Jacob sometimes in the 1800′s, but right away we find out that he doesn’t like him and wants him dead.  Just like someone else…
  3. Revelation — there are two Lockes — one dead and one appearing to be alive, but he wants Jacob killed, also, like the nameless enemy of Jacob.  Hmmmm…there seems to be a connection here some way?  Things are pointing to him being a big powerhouse as opposed to Eloise Hawkings, Charles Widmore, Ben, Locke or  Richard.  The question is does he have more power than Jacob?
  4. Ben seems to have some kind of complex and it appears that he has been slighted by Jacob, which means maybe he’s someone else’s puppet.   That was very funny when Jacob said to Ben, “What about you?”  Snap, Snap!!! That must have really hurt Ben’s ego, because he let him have it!  Then the phony Locke finally gives him the boot into the fire.  Nasty Locke or whomever!!!
  5. Richard seems to be some kind of lackey for Jacob or someone else.   He’s able to be in two time periods simultaneously.
  6. Sayid got shot and it looked like he might be a goner, but he kept holding on.
  7. It has been revealed that Ilana and the gang are working for Jacob, but why was she also bandaged up when she spoke to him?
  8. Jack was back to his old self and he obviously had had it on that island.  Case in point he and Sawyer get a lot out with that beat down of theirs!   He just wanted to get off the dang island and forget that everything had happened — including ever knowing Kate, Juliet or anyone else for that matter!
  9. Sounded like if Sawyer had been able to go back to the States in the 1977 via the sub — he had contemplated the idea of being able to change the outcome of his parents.   Sounded like that was his true reasoning for going back and not going back there to be with Juliet.  I was wondering why he picked the name of his parents killer for his surname?
  10. We finally got to see Rose, Bernard and the dog Vincent.  I thought they had probably gone off and homesteaded — since she didn’t really want to leave the island because she had been healed of her cancer there.  It was quite funny for them to not want to be spotted by the other Losties — with Rose saying, “It’s always something with you people.”   It was a sweet moment amidst all the chaos.
  11. Some of the Dharma folks got their come-uppance — specifically, Phil and Radzinsky.
  12. The love triangle, square, whatever — was quite frankly falling apart before everything was blown to smithereens.  Poor Juliet paid the ultimate price — even though it appeared Sawyer did want to be with her in the end.  Her character could be rather unlikable much of the time, because she came across as a phony with ulterior motives.  But there was no doubt where she was coming from when after falling down the shaft and coming to — still stuck on the island — and took a rock and was able to designate that bomb, because she clearly didn’t want to end things that way.  What did she have to lose if as Jack said about Daniel’s theory?
  13. What a classic ending with Juliet saying those words and finally able to designate the bomb, “Jughead” — then having the screen fade to white instead of black.
  14. Will they reset things and land at LAX like they were supposed to or was there some kind of electromagnetic reation causing a reaction?   I’m thinking the writers will be sending us in some alternate loop hole of possibly dealing with the likes of Jacob origins, Black Rock and the new bad guy deguised as Locke (and why they recruited the Losties).

Now we’re left to wonder for eight long months to contemplate what happened.  What a cliffhanger!  The best ever!  The writers gave us lots to chew on over the long haul.  There appears to be a lot of religious overtones.  They definitely had their “A” game on!  I’ll be revisiting that episode again and again for sure.
