Leaf Peeping in Europe & The America’s — Plus, Fall GiveAway!
10.30.2008 by Savvy SuzyDid you get a chance to see the PBS show, A Ride Along the Lincoln Highway, which aired last night? I enjoyed it! But I have to say that it was kind of weird seeing someone that I had met on the internet talking about a subject that I had accidentally showcased during a detour I had made while leaf peeping.
It had a segment with, Brian Butko, of the Lincoln Highway News, who I did my very first unplanned interview with, and he agreed to give one of his books for free during my Leaf Rx Tour (which you can check out at the bottom of this page, if you missed it.)
Brian is a very learned guy on the subject of this interesting highway, that I had driven before numerous times, but always knew it as Route 30. Now the word is getting out, that it’s equally, if not more, important than Route 66, which I already knew about and liked, being that I had a history with it, as well.
Update: The Fall GiveAway has ended. The winner will be announced on, 11.2.2008 at 12:00 p.m. Thanks for all who commented.

Leaf Rx Obsession Tour Continues…
Where are we going today? Do you really want to know? We’re going leaf peeping across the pond — over where all the folks in Europe are abiding.
The type of climate that they have here produces lots of trees, which in turn, create loads of falling leaves. And the falling leaves, are good for my obsessive condition. You see how that all works out. Beautiful!
First up on our list is England ~ where we’re headed straight for the countryside. I hit the “jack pot”! I was only planning to do one, but I couldn’t resist the absolutely glorious pics.
Like I said before, I couldn’t help putting up just one more pic’ from this exceptional collection of Leaf Rx. What can I say, but…Oooooooooooooh!
Now, for a little trek over to the neighbors over there in Ireland ~ where the surroundings are still very much green, but there is a subtle effect of autumn glowing through. It’s quite lovely. Isn’t it?
I’d like to stay longer, but other places are awaiting. Plus, the truth is, we’ve only got a few more days left of this tour, so I want to get as much as I can in.
Time to move on to another country on our itinerary named Italy ~ as usual, most of the spots that we visit, are out in the countryside of these countries, because that’s where “mother nature” usually has been busy doing her thing with all of the plants, like on the Tuscany field on the right. The photo on the left below has a spotlight shining from “Heaven” right here on earth in a place called, Abruzzo, where there is a national park. Both photos are ust simply lovely.
As you probably can tell, that I’m running out of steam as we get toward the end of our travels. But I’m still enjoying all the outstanding views that are being showcased on our tour.
Nevertheless, we have to say…ciao!
We’re moving over to the next country on this leaf peeping trip, which is in the country of France ~ as we are transported to the City of Lights and the Garden of Luxemborg. What a delightful sight!
However, we’ve got to bid a fine adieu, to this location, in order to get all the destinations included, before we sign off for this season.
I’d like to do more countries in Europe and elsewhere, but we’re just running out of time and need to head back across the “Pond”. But…before we go…let’s take a peek at, Iceland ~ on the left, with lots of softer shades of leaves appearing up there in that cold country. These are lovely muted colors. However, we have to squeeze in one more…
Last but not least, an abundance of activity in an undisclosed area in the countryside of Turkey, a country that I had erroneously posted as being on the continent of Asia, but I was wrong. However, this is something that I’m right about, this is home to the Whirling Dervishes.
There are some very rich variations of colors, emanating from the photo on the right — contrasting the blue of the sky and it’s reflection in the water.
Okay, now we really have to go! We’re off to learn something about the continent of North America and it’s people…
When it came to categorizing the various ethnicities of the populous of this continent, Wikipedia, had difficulty breaking the groups down. It makes sense that this would happen, because these countries are made up of people from all over the world, and hence this is why we use the term melting pot when we talk of the United States, specifically.
Canada ~ that’s where we’re headed first. I have been to this country (just for a few hours), to a city called Windsor, while visiting Detroit. It gets pretty cold up in those parts, so you know they’re going to have something for this condition of mine. The activity is happening right in a city called Vancouver. What a pretty, pretty reminder for those city dwellers, right in the heart of downtown.
Another place up in that neck of the woods, where we might find some leaves, as we move from west to the east and a place called, Nova Scotia. I just knew it. Some gorgeous fall action going on over here as well. Ooops…we’ve got to go to the next spot that strikes my fancy which is the country of…
Greenland ~ which I think is very, very odd that it’s even has that name. Look at the photo on the left — it’s striking — but where’s the green? There’s a little bit of fall activity on the ground cover. What it should have been called is Iceland, and vice versa, because it has more greenery. Who came up with these names? Never mind — we don’t want to start a war — we’ve got to go!
We’re bypassing the U.S., because, you remember why? We’ve visited all the 50 states for a month-and-a-half. However, we need to make a stop south of the border in ~ Central America.
I feel like I’m going Trick or Treating, if you will, and the type of leaf photos I get, are like eye candy, in this case. Keeping with the candy metaphor — sometimes I get loads of leaves and other times I get none.
In the country of, Mexico ~ they observe something called All Saints Day, which is where the Halloween observance, supposedly, originated from.
The next jaunt is way down below the equator to the continent of South America and where more people of Latin America live…
First up is, Brazil ~ where there is a seasonal change of sorts happening with some of the leaves. Some subtle rustic leaf demonstrations going on in the scene on the left. I like the earthiness of the tones being displayed.
The closer to the South Pole we get, the cooler it is and the more fall leaves.
I couldn’t find a lot of autumn photos being taken under the Creative Commons rules of Flickr, in the areas below the border. So I’m going to end the Leaf Rx Tour with a photo from the country of Chile ~ and it’s all aglow in the setting sun.
It’s been really fun going to all of the different countries and starting back in the states, but “All good things must come to an end!” Here’s another adage that comes to mind — “Too much of a good thing…” is not good. Me and my little avatar are beginning to OD a bit! I’ve got to get back to the simple little things of life, which means I plan on simplifying a bit more — that is with the holidays and my ThankFest coming up during all of November. It’s going to be very low key.
Thanks for coming along, and hope to see you here next month.
