Leaf Peeping in Africa
10.19.2008 by Savvy SuzyMy little avatar and me, have regrouped, and ready to go off again searching the ether for comfort views to sooth my obsessive condition, called leaf peeping. This time we’re searching for Leaf Rx virtually in far off lands. We were actually having vehicle problems, but now we’re back in operation again — just in time to finish our tour.
In the literal world I’ve only visited two foreign countries, which ones you may be wondering? I will showcase them later — so we’re hoping you’ll want to join us, too.
Doing things alphabetically makes things easier, so first up we’re stopping in a place that doesn’t come to mind when thinking about autumn and leaves, but you know what I say, “expect the unexpected”, and that is so true of the continent of…
Africa ~ home to one of the Seven Wonders, which you can see in the photo on the left. This photo of the Great Pyramid in Egypt, has nary a leaf in sight, but is something that is quite awesome, in and of itself. How in the world did they build it, is the question that comes to mind?
We’re moving along fast, this time we’re stopping in a place called, Botswana ~ where the photo on the right was taken of giraffes, who like to roam and eat the fall leaves drying on these trees — specifically, Acacia trees. These trees the favorite food of the tall creatures, which are also found in the Serengeti. This one seems to be more interested in us than eating any leaves at the present time. Well, we won’t disturb you any further. We have to say so long.
South Africa ~ is where they planted some grape vines with signs of autumn activity in a place called Stellenbosch. The photo on the left is an interesting image of fall leaves.
Nice earth tones emanating from the mix of colors in the hazy atmospheric light elements in this part of the continent. That was a nice boost for my conditon, but it’s time to check out another place that creates lots of energy as the content flows over the edge at…
Victoria Falls ~ it’s a beautiful waterfall, but we also get a chance to see just a hint of fall leaf action going on, as well. This continent, has been in a constant flux with it’s people, but the land continues to be a place of natural wonderment.
We’re having such a great time, enjoying the scenic conditions out in the wild country. However, we have lots of ground to cover, but such little time — so we’re going to have to move back up to the upper northwest portion.
But before we go, here is one more photo on the left, a glorious October sky in the Victoria Falls area. Such a deep a rich golden amber type orange color…sigh…have to say goodbye.
The photo on the right, below, is supposed to be of real goats, as you can see, climbing a tree. Has this photo been doctored? The photographer was questioning the site himself, of course he would…hum. This was all happening, supposedly, in a tree out in the wide open spaces of northern Africa, in a place called Morocco.
Are you rubbing your eyes in amazement — thinking come on goats in trees, how can this be?!! It is a ridiculously funny picture! I know goats can be very agile when it comes to climbing, but going up in trees — that’s quite an amazing fete. I was thinking, ‘Is this some kind of Photo Shop trick or what?’ They look like some kind of tree ornaments. That’s is such a funny site! We could sit here in bewilderment, but the clock is ticking and we have one more stop on this continent.
It’s been fun checking the scenery out not only of the back roads of Morocco, like the photo on the left, but also the back lands and wide open country across this land. However, we’re on the move again, to our last stop.
Although we’re taking the continents in order, the countries within, may be another story. We’ll probably take them willy nilly, as they come to mind.
Places like Madagascar ~ what a great name. Will there be any fall action is the question? Let’s go see.
As expected, there’s not much falling from these trees, but I did find this most unusual tree in the photo on the right, with some round ornamental type balls dangling from the limbs, that I wouldn’t want falling on me. What in the world are these? Does anyone know? Unusual vegetation on this island country off the coast of the mainland of Africa.
We leave here with a smile instead of a sigh, as we travel to other far off destinations and see back roads and by ways of other places. There was activity in the trees, but most of it was of a rather bizarre nature, which was all good!
Has anyone out there been to any of these places?
