SensationallyTerrific Leaves in Four States & The Presidential Debate Tonight
10.07.2008 by Savvy SuzySouth Carolina (39) ~ has places called Sandhills, Piedmont, and Blue Ridge Region, which are part of the Appalachian MountainsThe photo on the left is a closer view of South Carolina, in a place called Port Royal. It’s more like the grasses of fall in these parts. So I went out searching for a closer view, and this is what I found — photo on the right, below, are some hints of color going up the hill! We were probably looking down on it from the pictures above.
It’s odd I’ve never been to both of the states starting with the letter “S”, but I have been to both states beginning with “T”. You’re probably saying — “Big Deal!”, “So What!” or “Who Cares!” I just needed some extra words to fill up the space next to this picture. Just kidding. I have to have a little fun every now and then.
South Dakota (40) ~ is a state I haven’t been to before, but is where you’ll find the Black Mountains, a region that is important to Native Americans. I decided to forgo the trees in order to get these carved faces. That’s quite amazing!
The sculptor, had a monumental task (pun intended) before him, and to keep chipping away at something like that, was an exercise in perseverance.
Tennessee (41) ~ is a state that I’ve been to several times, which is home to some mountainous terrain, and appears to be a very musical state. I didn’t realize until we drove through, just how mountainous is was. The terrain consist of areas such as the Great Smokey Mountains, which include the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Also there are the Ridge-and-Valley Appalachians, which is part of the Appalachian Trails. I didn’t know this, but this state has more caves than any other state, like the Ruby Falls Cave, with an underground waterfall. That’s a picture inside the cave, right side.
On a sad note, Memphis is the town where pastor and civil rights leader, Martin Luther King, Jr., was struck down, at this hotel, which is now a museum. It’s also where legendary, Elvis Presley’s life began and ended at Graceland.
On a lighter note, but maybe not in the beginning, because Beale Street is located here, a place that paid homage to the blues, which was based on sadness, but has endured for many years and was the roots of jazz (which is my favorite) and other popular forms of music.
Another form of music based in, Nashville, can get down in the dumps at times, too, called country music. Ending our tour here on a loftier height with inspirational music, which is also being created here in this town.
Plus, tonight the second of the three, presidential debates, with Senators, John McCain and Barack Obama, will be at Belmont University, in Nashville.
Well, I’m saying right off the bat, that I’ve been to Texas (42) ~ when I went on that Greyhound Bus trip with my husband. We spent a couple of days in Dallas with his relatives, where everything is big in Texas, even the sunsets. The photo was taken in Corpus Christi.
Also, a store that I pick up a few limited items from time to time (mostly organic vegetables, in season, to keep costs down) is Whole Foods Market, which got it’s start in Austin.
On another sad note, Dallas was the place where, President, John F. Kennedy, was slain. It was another extremely somber day in U.S. history.
It is the home state of our current President, George W. Bush. He also was governor of Texas and is what’s called a “lame duck” presidency, around about now.
Well, that’s it for these letters. The Rx Tour is rounding down for this portion. We’ve only got a few more states, to help with the obsessive-compulsive tendencies of my leaf peeping. But I’m not trying to cure it. Au contraire! It’s something I want to cultivate!
So, as I’ve mentioned before, if you’re just starting to join me and my little avatar, on our Rx tour, you can go back and check out where we’ve been, if you like:
