I: Is for Irresistible Leaves Detour to Route 66 & Lincoln Highway
9.18.2008 by Savvy Suzy
…in the four states that start with the letter “I”. The first being the state of Idaho (12).
It’s one of those states that I’ve never been to before, but as you can see, there are some striking examples to be seen in this wide open state.
Although, I do know that this state produces something that is used widely by people — called potatoes.
“I” is for another state called Illinois, the land of Lincoln, and now the home of the Democratic Presidential candidate, Senator, Barack Obama. Also, former, President, Ronald Reagon, hailed from here, too. This is not only a state I’ve been to — it just happens to be the state where I was born.
I was going to give this state another photo, but since I have so many photos, I’ll leave it at the one this time.
Here’s the third state that starts with the letter “I”, called Indiana (14). Yes it’s right next to the previous state Illinois. Being that it was so close, yes I have been there before. These are some of the states that compose the heartland.
Last but not least, another “I” state and a neighbor to the previous two (although, Idaho is stuck out there all by it’s lonesome, which suits them just fine), is a state called Iowa (15).
Yes, I certainly did, visit this state, but not until after I had moved to California and traveling back there went through here. A lot of people didn’t travel as much back in the `50’s and `60’s. The Interstate Highway System was just getting started. It’s something that we depend on now in this country, but hasn’t been around really that long. It’s still going through growing pains.
I was just wondering…this sounds like fun…to travel Route 66 from California to Chicago or vice versa. It is also fondly known as the, “Mother Road“, by many. I ‘m wondering what would it be like to travel this in the fall to do some leaf peeping at nature’s annual show? Hmmmm…

ROAD DETOURS:
Has anyone out there actually taken a road trip on Route 66 or Lincoln Highway (It would be fun to do both — separately, of course.), for that matter, in the fall or otherwise? Let me know.
Ran into a bit of a comparison, or did I, between Route 66 and Lincoln Highway, as to which is more important? You see, I’ve actually been on parts of these two historic highways. I’m adding more links than I intended. Plus I didn’t find any turning foliage sites, but I wanted to pay more homage to Lincoln Highway, since it was the “Grand Daddy” of all the roads in America. Anyway here is what I uncovered…

Both 66 and the Lincoln Highway have many cool things to see and do, and they’re really not that different. Promotion of 66 often leans towards a 1950s rock’n roll style while the LH more represents early autos struggling to cross the country, but in reality both roads offer a full range of motoring and roadside history.
And thanks for mentioning LH News!
