“Tree”

8/28/2008

I think that I shall never see…

A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest

Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day

And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in Summer wear

A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;

Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,

But only God can make a tree.

“That’s All Folks!”

I could have used “The Party’s Over…” song again for the conclusion of the Games, but “been, there, done that” — it’s time to move on. As far as critiquing the Finale — I’m going to have to say that it was more lackluster than the opening ceremonies, which were quite exceptional. It reminded me of a cross between Cirque du Soleil and The Wizard of Oz, as far as the mass drummers and dancers go.

They’ve had a few incidents, such as, China having underage athletes. When it’s all said and done — these events went over quite well. It’s back to the status quo — now that they’ve done their thing, so to speak. Well, time will tell how these events will effect the future.

I am going to have to admit, I am more of a fan of the Winter Games moreso than the Summer Games, but this one did pique my interest quite a bit. As far as the actual events go, I didn’t see any in their entirety. My family mostly “TiVoed” various venues there and here. We had other things to do, so this way allowed us to still stay up on most of the happenings.

The opening ceremonies were really lovely and I liked the music better.  Whereas, I didn’t care for the music that was offered, for the most part,  in the closing ceremony.  I still haven’t seen it all as of yet. (more…)

Finding The Good Junk — Wherever!

I like visiting places in the real world — when I have the funds, but being able to go places virtually has expanded my view of what’s out there in the world (even more so now, due to my finances being low.) But I’m actually more of a homebody, and I like maintaining a home.

The summer is winding down around about now, and a lot of people may like to leisurely peruse the aisles of various “junk” venues to find more stuff to bring in. I think it’s something a lot of people like to do around this time of year, before they do the heavy duty shopping for new things at Christmas time. (more…)

Out in the Ether Again!

I took a slight detour the past few months — need to get back to discovering new and interesting things and places — before summer moves out of here! And it is moving fast!! I went to a place called…

in·tro·spec·tion (n.) ~ observation or examination of one’s own mental and emotional state, mental processes, etc.; the act of looking within oneself. (Dictionary.com)

and

“The Party’s Over…” (Part 2, Credit Crunchies)

…It’s time to call it a day!”…is the way, I believe, the song goes, but in this case the lyrics should be…”The party’s over…” It’s time to stash cards away! That could very well be a revived tune that many consumers should be singing these days. (more…)

What Was I Thinking?

8/8/2008

During the past few weeks I’ve done some…

re·flec·tion (n.) A thought or an opinion resulting from such consideration. (The Free Dictionary)

…especially after going through an earthquake, which had the potential to be life threatening. We never know if it’s the so called “BIG ONE”, but being a Californian, we don’t dwell on it (However, it is important to be prepared.) Since then, I’ve been cruisin’ about the ether, with my little avatar leading the way, and coming across a lot of talented folks. Most of these folks, are a lot more savvier than me. (more…)

“Top 12 Foods to Buy Organic”

Sometimes I’ve attempted to take the “bull by the horn”, so to speak, to get things done. But sometimes taking off “more than I could chew”, has wrecked havoc — I just end up wanting to bang my head up against a wall! So I’ve learned that I need to take things in little steps. Over the long haul they add up. Have you done that too? (more…)

The Gas Price Game

8/1/2008

It appears that if you own any kind of vehicle that utilizes gas, you automatically have been signed up for the “Guess The Price of Gas Today Game”. How do we deal with the fluctuating prices on a daily basis? This is one of many ongoing questions to this crazy game. Out here in California we have the nation’s highest prices! Thankfully, prices appear to be on the downward spiral now — for who knows how long?

Being unemployed, one has no choice but to cut back, and that is what I’ve done. I use my vehicle as minimally as I can. Although, I do use it for going out on interviews and necessary shopping excursions. Some people are parking their vehicles and taking to riding bikes, using public transportation or walking, if it’s convenient for them. I do utilize my feet for transportation (two for one: exercise and transporter) when I get the chance. (more…)
