Me & My Neighbor’s Cat, Part II

7.02.2008 by Savvy Suzy

All right you cat lovers…don’t get in a hissy fit! Yes, I’m still dealing with the neighbor’s cat. And no…there I’m saying it! I’m not a cat lover. I don’t hate them…just neutral. As far as this cat goes…I’ve been advised that I could contact the Humane Society and have them cart this nasty cat away, but I don’t want to do that.

So I’ve taken other steps that have been more successful than not, such as: 1) my flower garden is taking off now after using chicken wire strategically. 2) I use rose bush branches strategically placed. However, we had a recurrence of the spraying on the door, possibly as a territorial sign. 3) So we bought this sound alarm device that didn’t work (but the company replaced it) and now, 4) we are putting out a large gallon container of water.

Look all cats are not nice! Just as all people aren’t either. Plus everyone doesn’t want to have pets. That doesn’t make us out to be bad people. On the contrary — we were more the norm in years past (and more than likely still are), but you don’t hear much from our side — just about these people carrying on over their cats. That’s ok! Just not at the expense of others. There are, too, many people who own pets that shouldn’t. They don’t clean up behind them or train them properly.

My mother would get asthma from being around cats, so of course that’s a very good reason for not owning them. Besides I have allergies to dog dander and probably to cats, too, so I wouldn’t want to be bothered with taking medicine in order to have a pet. I can see them from a distance.

As far as dogs go, I was knocked down and almost bitten by a dog when I so bravely went to get a ball, when I was little. That turned out to be a no, no! Fortunately, a neighbor was there to ward it off, otherwise I would have gotten mauled by this dog. As a result, I have not truly warmed up to these creatures. I tolerate them, but don’t really know how to handle them, but I’m learning. Although, it’s not right that we who choose not to have pets, are being put upon at the expense of those unthoughtful ones who are not maintaining these pets properly. I suppose you could say that this was an article about “responsible pet ownership”.

I violated my rule, of the KISS approach — to add this article, but it’s okay…I’m allowed to break my rules every now and then. :) I just wanted to do an update and add this information on this sensitive subject.
