Home is…(Lost, Episode #12)

5.18.2008 by savvysuzy

It’s getting more and more difficult to write my interpretation of what I saw on the show. Things are reaching an all time frenzy, compared to last year’s humdrum episodes. Episode #12, There’s No Place Like Home, Part I, was jumping all over the place — beach, Orchid Station, speed raft, freighter, flash-forward-back and over again. The title is a bit of a misnomer, because basically, I’m getting a sense that these “Losties” have no place to really call home.

(Due to the numerous links in my last article ( I got carried away), I’m kind of burned out — so just check the article link above to find out who some of the other main characters are, if you don’t already know. Although, it appears that the author of the Lostpedia article is a bit tired, also. Regardless, they do such a beautiful job recapping. I plan to condense my review in the future, because it can get tedious. I’m going to have to learn to be more succinct.)

With that last statement, I have to say that the homecoming for the Oceanic Six was a rather sad occasion. No one appeared really happy to be back, except Sayid. They were force fed a phony alibi by one of the airline spokesperson. Jack had instructed the survivors not to say anything about the island, so they had no problem with the story.

We have Hurley running from the numbers in the Camaro his father overhauled; Sun buying a part of her father’s illicit business tactics; Jack giving a eulogy for his father and being confronted by his father’s mistress who reveals that Claire is his sister; and last but not least, Sayid is finally reunited with Nadia, whom he had lost, but we already know that this happiness is bitter sweet with her being killed in a later time frame.

Flashing back to the island, we have Locke, Ben and Hurley, being signaled by someone on their way to the Orchid so that Ben can move the island, but only having to confront Keamy’s marauders first; Jack is recuperating from his surgery, now bleeding, teaming up with Sawyer to find the mercenaries and running into Frank, who they handcuffed to his helicopter; the people at the beach gearing up for something; Sayid making it to the island with the speed raft and exchanging places with Daniel to take a group to the freighter; the freighter attempting to head for the island to pick up passengers, but someone has put explosives in the engine room; Sayid and Kate on the trail to find Jack and Sawyer, but being ambushed by Richard and his large rag-tag group of Others.

This is all leading up to the two hour cliff-hanger finale of this season. The LOST cast and crew have done an exemplary job of recalibrating this show, in spite of the writer’s strike, which could have potentially derailed the show again. There is, also, an actor’s strike looming in the background for next month, I think. If it happens, it could possibly delay things again, but it appears that the crew and cast have learned how to weather such detours to come out “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” to find “No Place Like Home”, wherever that might be. I’m thinking that these Losties have to learn that their home is… with them, wherever!
