A Twisted Tale (Lost, Episode #10)
5.04.2008 by Savvy SuzyI actually saw the last installment of LOST, episode #10, “Something Nice Back Home”, on the actual night that it aired, but I was kind of hesitant to sit down and write about it. Why, would you say, pray tell would that be? It was a rather strange episode — kind of edgy, gross, sad, eerie, etc. I could probably go on with the adjectives.
It was interesting, but totally off kilter. As if I know what would be normality on that island. All I can say about Jack and Kate, is that they don’t appear to be happy with each other. Something is missing. Something is wrong. The whole idea of Kate being a “happy homemaker” doesn’t sit that well with me.
She had an episode last season, “I Do”, where she had a flashback about her getting married and playing the happy wife role again. That, also, appeared to be some kind of fantasy. The woman was acting like some tough and rough dude on the island. Always ready to take charge, and now she’s happy taking care of someone else’s child, when she didn’t want to have one of her own. Something is not adding up.
Also, Jack is starting to drink because he’s not sure what Kate is up to when she goes out to do whatever (She claims it’s to do a favor for Sawyer.); Hurly is telling him that Charlie doesn’t want him to raise Claire’s child, Aaron; his dead father is showing up at the hospital where he works. Doesn’t take much to send him off. He shouldn’t be a doctor if he’s that sensitive. That doesn’t add up either.
Back on the island Claire almost gets blown up, but then she disappears with her and Jack’s father. Ben, Locke and Hurley have gone off to find Jacob, who is flying about with the cabin like the “Wicked Witch of the West” from the Wizard of Oz. Ben reminds me of the Wizard in the story of Oz, but he’s much more devious and has a untold cache of tricks behind the secret door, that he disappears into to control various aspects on the island and off. The room may even transport him to other countries as seen in the “Shape of Things To Come”.
We have the group that Sawyer has taken charge, which is another anomaly, and he is guarding Miles, Claire and baby, Aaron. It’s funny to listen to Miles and Sawyer taking jabs at each other. A good match up there. As I mentioned before, Claire disappeared into the night with her father, which makes me think she may have died in the night, but who knows.
Back at the beach side camp, we have Jack getting an operation on his appendix by Juliet, with Kate and Bernard assisting. His wife, Rose, has said earlier that it was strange that Jack got sick, because the island made people well (She had been healed by it.) Supposedly, Juliet released her claim on Jack and gave it back over to Kate, during the operation, as Jack is listening.
I’m tallying up the score for this episode and nothing adds up! Too many things are going haywire. This episode was interesting, but quite weird, so I really don’t want to talk about any other aspects of the episode, because it was all rather unsettling. It raised more questions than it answered — that’s for sure! Maybe this installment was just a complex placeholder or some type of transitioning phase — moving us into other territories. Onward to episode #11. The momentum is building now. Just great!
