By-Way to Creativity!
5.01.2008 by Savvy SuzyI’m still having residual effects from my little prank I did on April Fools’ Day. It reminded me of why I’m blogging. It’s taking me to new places and affording me the opportunity to learn new ideas. It’s inspiring me in so many new ways, just by doing the research for the site.
Blogging is putting me in touch with my…
creativity (noun) the ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules, patterns, relationships, or the like, and to create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods, interpretations, etc.; originality, progressiveness, or imagination: the need for creativity in modern industry; creativity in the performing arts. (Dictionary.com)
…that was not being brought to the forefront by me. I wanted to do something fun, but there was something keeping me from sitting down and just doing. I was making it too difficult, by attempting to do too big of a project.
I went to visit a Career Counselor at our local junior college, and I spoke to a very kind and helpful lady. Her name was Katherine. She suggested that I read a book called “The Artist Way” by Julia Cameron. I got the book at the library and read it. She also, gave me the name of another author, who had tapes on file that I could listen to, and that’s what I did. I would go in periodically to listen.
There were a lot of good tips, minus some of the New Age aspects, such as doing affirmations. What I did find out was that I had been “creatively blocked”. I may have heard the word, but it never really phased me. This was back around 2001 - 2002. That’s when I became more attuned to being more creatively open.
I was drawing pictures that were rigid and using weird color combinations. Katherine mentioned the unusual choice of colors. It must have been a reflection of where I was at the time. Well, as you can see, my color pallet has gotten much more vivid, which again, the blogging has been the most inspiring tool that I’ve used to help me stay on this creative path. That’s why I blog regardless of what happens, and without any expectations. I “expect the unexpected.”
