“Lost” in Conclusion, Episode #8

I’ve finally decided to tackle the angst-ridden episode #8, “Meet Kevin Johnson”, starring the character, Michael, aka, Kevin Johnson, who hasn’t been seen or heard from in a long, long time. It’s good to see him coming back into the fold, but it’s difficult to watch him being totally stressed out!

He obviously has some inner demons creating all of this negativity that wants him to do himself in. I believe it was something like five times that he attempted to commit suicide. But of all the characters from the island, Tom (The“Other”, who kidnapped Walt.), with his weird and creepy self, shows up in the alley like some kind of twisted “Jiminey Cricket”, who is telling him that “the island won’t let him kill himself.” Plus we find out later as he’s forced to re-tell to Sayid and Desmond, how he came to be on the freighter and working as Ben’s “contact”.

We find out after one of his failed attempts to leave this world, that he left Walt with his mother in New York City. I’m wondering is he working, on welfare, on drugs, or exactly, just what is his problem? Wanting to do himself in, is always the wrong thing to do, but I don’t think he really wanted to do himself in — maybe something else was taunting him to do it.

Back on the island, for some strange reason, Ben, decides to send his daughter, Alex, her boyfriend, Karl, and her mother, Danielle, who is also Ben’s extranged wife, off somewhere for protection. I know, reader, it’s hard for me to keep up, too, but I’m doing my best. This story is going all over the place. I kind of forget about these three characters.

(Discussing the show with my family, as I often do, I was corrected on Ben being Danielle’s ex and vice versa. They were never married. I must have drifted off last year, when the show was dragging, and missed the part where it was discussed that, Alex, was taken from her mother, by Ben. I do remember Danielle saying early on that her and her husband crashed onto the island a number of years earlier. Somewhere, I thought she was lying and that Ben was her husband. The audience definitely is not exempt from getting “lost” with this show.

Well, anyway, they get ambushed by someone or some thing shooting darts or something like that. So Danielle and Karl end up getting shot at, and keeling over as if dead — leaving Alex to surrender, by raising arms and proclaiming she’s Ben’s daughter.

That’s where we leave this rather climactic and angst-ridden tale — dangling precariously off of an imaginary mind cliff, until they resume the show on April 24th, 2008. I can’t wait, but I have to!
