Time Out!

Do you still watch much TV? I don’t. Only every now and then. The writer’s strike did me a favor, actually, I parred my viewing down even more. There was plenty of so called “reality TV” fare to be had now and during the strike. It’s more like surrealism + reality = ‘Surreality TV’.

All this so called “reality” has gone way overboard. And that may have had something to do with them getting down to business and ending the strike. That is, along with people becoming less dependent on TV and more so on computers (specifically the internet), being the main reason the writers and corporate heads decided to go back to work.

Have you heard about the new HDTV format that we’re supposed to change over to next year. It’s suppose to improve quality and provide various other benefits in coming years, for the television stations and, supposedly, for us viewers. But what’s having improved viewing quality, when what we’re watching isn’t any good? Duh!!!

I’ve made a conscious decision to be highly selective when I watch TV. As far as reality TV goes, I have become extremely selective, due to a lot of crassness on the part of a lot of these shows. However, I still find two shows in that category that are not only entertaining but educational. What two shows could these possibly be “pray tell”? Well one is “Wife Swap” (which so far, hasn’t gone the low road) and the other is “Super Nanny”, who will teach you how to put your kids in “time out”, if you have that problem!

Now, I hope that I don’t jinx these two shows by just mentioning them, but they can be funny and quite interesting, all the while offering up some sage advice. It’s not about being a voyeur, but it can be interesting seeing how other people have put themselves up as examples. I definitely wouldn’t want to do that, but I have to give these people credit in this regard. They must really needed a change.
