Why is this week so strange?!!!
12.27.2007 by savvysuzyThe week in between Christmas and the New Year has always been kind of strange to me. By the way I hope everyone had a nice Christmas. My family keeps our celebration all rather low key.
Ours was very peaceful. We don’t exchange a lot of gifts. We usually get something my whole family can use. Doing this has also minimized the ‘blue funkiness’ — I’ll call it — that comes in between the “holidazes” and in January.
We actually stopped exchanging gifts a number of years ago. The kids would play with their boxes that the presents came in. Plus the trekking back to the store to exchange things. It all got rather tiring.
I’m sure the merchants don’t want to see a lot of people like us sprouting up. My husband and I were on a limited income at the time — so we just stopped exchanging with each other (came up with one gift we all wanted & things for the kids until they got older and understood what we were doing.)
It has freed us up to give a gift whenever we want, and not because of the seasonal obligation. We’ve exchanged things at office parties and things like that, but we don’t do all of this shopping like we use to. It all can start to become meaningless, anyway.
We can now reflect on the real meaning of the season — on the fact that it is Jesus’s birthday (But it has been said that he was really not born at this time — possibly more toward a warmer period.) With all of this merry making we can forget — it’s not really about us (oh, indirectly) — it’s about Him and His birthday that is the reason we celebrate. He was our “Gift!”
That’s one reason I wanted to reflect on all the things we have already been given, which are very important things. At this in between point in the year — it’s a time to reflect — about the year past and where I am in the scheme of things.
Another exceptional “Gift” that has been given has a tendency to be highly questionable in some people’s minds. I don’t know why this word could be cause for skepticism — the word is “Miracle.” Waking up in the morning and partaking of “Everything” that has been given. The fact that everything exists — including us is an amazing, amazing “Miracle!!!”This in my humble opinion.
Here is a “Miracle” in action that I read at, yahoo.com, just recently.
