Soulful Shoes
10.15.2007 by savvysuzyI’m finally talking about a subject that hits right to my very core. Actually right down to the bottom of my soul/sole… FINDING A DECENT PAIR OF SHOES FOR MY FEET! I decided to talk about it a few months back when I discovered this picture (It’s actually a substitute, but a good one. Someone actually deleted the actual one that I had on my StumbleUpon site.) But those and these on the left are a good example that some women are teetering dangerously around in, these days.
There is this obsession with the high heel today. That scary, horribly-dangerous, stilt of a shoe! Yes, dangerous!!! That point doesn’t get discussed much. They look like some kind of torture contraptions. Plus, women do not — for the most part — walk gracefully in these shoes.
The Chinese used to bind womens’ feet, youtube.com in order that they could be squeezed into tiny shoes, which were appealing to some men. They continued doing it throughout their lives — until their feet became deformed. But today, there’s no one forcing these women to plunk down “cold hard cash” or credit cards on these hideous things called “stilletos” or “high heels!” They’re doing it out of their own volition.
They can call me “square, dowdy, ol’ fuddy duddy, un-hip, un-cool, outta style, or whatever adjective they want to use. I don’t care! I thought when you became an adult that the attitudes of wanting to fit in at all cost, should have been left behind. But it seems that a lot of women are copy cats, and ruled by the celebrities and designers.
Men don’t wear shoes to attract women. Why should women wear these “Come Hither” shoes to snag a man — especially at work. How in the world can you work in something like that? They don’t look like much working is going to get done — let alone walking. These terribly impractical shoes, that really look like ridiculous clown shoes. I thought women wanted to be taken seriously. How can you take anyone seriously when they’re precariously teetering on a pair of “stiletto” shoes. It’s quite absurd!
While I’m on the subject of disclosing some of my “pet shoe peeves” — since I am paying the “nickel” to sponsor this site — may as well talk about shoe issues on the other side of the spectrum. Shoe issues like women wearing flip flops and other open toe shoes to work. Don’t get me wrong, I like my flip flops when I’m at home, but I don’t believe we should wear open toe shoes to work. Call me “old fashioned”, but I don’t want anyone seeing my feet at work, and I don’t want to see anyone else’s feet at work. It’s way too casual. Yuk! Not at all professional.
When you go to work I believe in wearing shoes that are comfortable — that allow me to pretty much forget about them and focus on the work at hand. Some people think that work is for merely socializing. We’re there to do a job. Save the flip flops and other open toe shoes for after work. Way too much exposure on the part of some people. I don’t think I’ve seen any men showing their feet at work. Maybe some have, possibly on “Casual Fridays,” but they are usually more professional. Some women appear to be confused these days.
So don’t get me wrong I like fashion and to shop every now and then. But being financially strapped at times has left me with a challenge to get the most for my money. I don’t have a lot of shoes, but what I do have needs to be comfortable and attractive — at a reasonable price. I think some of the designers and women are coming back “down to earth.” The so called “kitten heels” are a version of “stiletto” that are very attractive, in my opinion, and allows you to have comfort without forfeiting the style.
I’m probably not winning many people over to comment on my site, but since hardly anyone is commenting, anyway, I may as well use that “nickel” to talk about things that I like and dislike. So if I’ve offended anyone — that’s too bad — do comment or why not get yourself a site.
Getting back to the subject at hand, ‘uncomfortable shoes’ — “stiletto heels” — some of them are kind of pretty to look at, but when you see the heel it’s very, very scary. I want to be grounded in my soul/sole — my spirit. It’s important, especially after you get older to have a good foundation. Life is so rush, rush and full of change — so wherever I can find comfort and stability — be it in my clothes — my home — my shoes — especially my spirit — that is a “blessed” thing.
Whether you agree or disagree with me — I’d like to hear your comments. I’m always open to differing opinions, and have no problem with criticism, as long as it’s constructive. Thanks for reading my “rant,” and please check out the information I found out there in the “ether” on other views regarding this particular topic:
