Need A Simple Garden Plan
3.04.2007 by Savvy SuzyWhen it comes to gardening I have to keep it simple (Are you getting the idea that “simple” is the operative word in my life?) in order to stay at it. I kinda’ have a partial-green thumb. That is, I’m pretty good at clipping hedges and shaping things up (pruning) — pullin’ weeds can really get me carried away, once I get at it. However, I am a little squeamish when it comes to bugs, but I “grin and bear it.”
But what I really need is to work with drought tolerant perenials that don’t have many diseases (those are the kind of plants (especially flowers) I like to plant — otherwise, they could have a tough time makin’ it through the long haul. I’ve learned that much.
I’ve planted vegetable and flower gardens before (when we owned a house), but now that we live in a townhouse (rental) where there are +little patches+ of terra firma instead of more open yardage — I have to be really creative in my mode of operation.
I’m looking for a garden plan that’s really simple and plants that aren’t so demanding (In the past I had a knack for making things harder than they needed to be — that’s part of the motivation for becoming savvier.) My idea of taking care of a garden is that it just has to be easy to maintain. That’s the plan for me!
So for my little garden this year I need to find flowering perennials (because I’ve learned that they come back year after year. How clever of them.) that will be pretty to look at, not too demanding and drought tolerant. Is that too much to ask? Well, I, Savvy Suzy, have been living up to my name. Take a look at all the interesting garden research I brought back:
