Kid at Heart
9.30.2006 by savvysuzyWho are our role models when it comes to play? Kids, of course! It comes so natural to them. We want them to be happy, but when we buy them numerous toys that end up under the bed or worse yet — taken apart, looking for the fun — it can make us aware that all toys are not created equal.
The Strong National Museum of Play, www.strongmuseum.org, in Rochester, N.Y., has named the LEGOs Brand, as having developed the toy of the century. The last century that is. And we agree! Those little multi-colored bricks can give little kids and big kids hours and hours of creative hands-on time.
Monopoly is not only a great game, but it can be an introduction for kids into the world of money. The museum has cited it as the most popular board game ever! If you’re bored (no pun intended) and stumped on what to do — check this game out. It’s something for the whole family or just two.
The Museum of Play also cited the “Box” (that is the plain-brown-corrugated cardboard box) as being a favorite toy of kids. It can open endless possibilities for creativity.
So, what do all these toys have in common? They are all very savvy, economical and classical ways to keep kids and the “kid at heart,” in us, having fun!
